It is, in fact, the first 'Pride' festival in the European calendar. In the rest of the countries, they are usually closer to the official date, 28th June, when International Pride Day is celebrated. It is a commemoration of the Stonewall riots of 1969, when a series of demonstrations broke out in New York's Greenwich Village neighbourhood in response to ongoing police raids on bars frequented by the LGTBIQA+ community, especially the Stonewall Inn.
